Karen is a recognized expert in cost segregation and tax incentives for energy efficient real estate who has worked in public accounting and private industry for more than 20 years. Since joining Bedford Cost Segregation, Karen has played an instrumental role in guiding the firm’s CPA Strategy Program and continuing education efforts to further establish Bedford as an industry leader. As a Certified Public Accountant with a Masters in Taxation and an in-depth understanding of the engineering process Karen is able to introduce innovative planning strategies for a wide array of clients. She is uniquely qualified to assist accounting firms in delivering creative solutions throughout the real estate life cycle; seamlessly integrating cost segregation and asset retirement studies with tax incentives for energy efficient building improvements to produce immediate and recurring financial benefits for clients nationwide.
Karen gained significant industry expertise working at Crowe Horwath (formerly
Crowe Chizek), where prior to joining Bedford, she specialized in tax compliance and
consulting for middle market companies and high-wealth individuals and was an
integral part of the firm’s cost segregation practice. Her professionalism was recognized with selection into the firm’s Women into Leadership program, where she
furthered her commitment to building solid relationships by delivering excellent
personal service. Karen has lectured extensively on cost segregation and related
tax planning strategies for numerous industry groups and associations including the
American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), CREW Network, and
numerous state CPA societies. She also provides regular in-house CPE training to
accounting firms throughout the United States.
Karen is actively involved in many professional associations of which she is a member including the American Society of Cost Segregation Professionals (ASCSP) where she served on the Membership Committee, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) as a member of the Energy Tax Policy Task Force, and CREW Network where Karen serves on a local level as a member of Board of Directors for CREW Louisville and as a Chapter Delegate.Karen previously served as chair of the Finance Committee for CREW Network. Karen is also a member of the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants (KYCPA).
